Founding Manifesto
물까치는 참새목 까마귀과 물까치속의 조류다.
서울대학교 관악캠퍼스 교정에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 질박하고 친숙한 새다. 교조로 지정은 되어 있으나 실제로 볼 수는 없는 두루미의 고고한 권위성과는 대별된다.
물까치는 수십 마리가 무리를 지어 공동육아를 하는 연대의식을 아는 새이며, 둥지를 위협하는 사람을 두려워하지 않고 덤비는 투쟁성 있는 새이다.
물까치의 푸른색, 흰색, 검은색 깃털은 현장직 노동자(블루칼라), 사무직 노동자(화이트칼라), 그리고 학생(학위복)들의 노학연대 총연대 총단결을 상징한다.
우리는 “세속의 이해관계로부터 초연”하게 높이 나는 두루미가 아니라, 시끄럽게 울며 낮게 나는 물까치가 될 것이다. 𓅪

The azure-winged magpie (Cyanopica cyanus) is a bird in the family Corvidae.
It is an unpretentious and familiar bird that is common on the Gwanak Campus of Seoul National University. Thus, it stands in stark contrast to the academistic and authoritative red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis), which——even though designated as the official symbol of SNU——can hardly ever be seen.
The azure-winged magpie is a bird that shows the spirit of solidarity, forming flocks to raise their nestlings communally. It is also a combative bird that fearlessly swoops down on its enemies threatening its nest.
The tricolour feathers of the azure-winged magpie symbolise the united solidarity of the blue-collar workers, white-collar workers, and black-gowned students.
We will be azure-winged magpies swooping down with strident birdcalls, rather than high-flying cranes that are “detached from worldly interests”. 𓅪
